MAD ABOUT THE BOYS (29 JUNE 2021)

MAD ABOUT THE BOYS, is a cabaret, produced by the Wela Kapela Production company of East London, South Africa, starring the Daniel Anderson, accompanied on piano by Nathan Johannisen
MAD ABOUT THE BOYS celebrate the lives of Ivor Novello, the matinee idol, Noel Coward, the quintessential, English gentleman and the American play boy Cole Porter.

Think of a certain suave, urbane style that reigned in New York, London, Paris, the theatre, and the movies in the ’20s and ’30s. Think of cigarettes, smoking jackets, cocktails, cynical epigrams, and sexy, witty, world-weary songs. Cole Porter Noel Coward and Ivor Novello, who were friends moving in the same café-society circles, and who virtually invented that style were the celebrities of their time.

This witty little cabaret is written and directed by Amanda Bothma is a series of little vignettes about each of the boys and, of course the songs that made them immortal. Mad About the Boys promise to be sheer entertainment .

DAMSEL IN DISTRESS is a cabaret, produced by the Welakapela Production company of East London, South Africa, starring Alison Hilstead as Griselda, aptly named after the Damsel in Distress in Chaucer’s Canterbury tales.

Griselda is a librarian that lives in the library. She has not left the building in a long, long time, when faced with life’s little challenges she opt out with “No thank you, I will rather just read my book. I might not be an adventurer, but I am a librarian and I am proud of it!” Griselda lives in a world of fiction and struggles to confront her demons.

In this thought provoking cabaret, Allison Hillstead, as Griselda, explores the phenomenon of the ’Damsel in Distress’. She looks behind the curtain ……..the curtain of reality, where she find the big bad wolf lurking in the shadows.

This cabaret, explores the phenomena of the, Damsel in Distress, and investigates the, very real threat of femicide in South African society.
