KAAPSE KLOPSE JOL

“ Kaapse Klopse Jol” returns to the Guild Theatre after 5yrs. This production features the Cape’s minstrel revelry as was started at the Cape castle during the 16th century.
This culture has been kept alive by the annual Coon Carnival street parades and competition.
Jayson King, the producer assembled a talented 10pc membership of male and female players with the “ghoema drum”, banjo, sax and singers. This “ JOL “ takes us to old District Six with the Corner Boys, then off to the clubhouse to practice for the street parades and stadium competitions.
The costumes are typically minstrel and the music twists and turns with cover versions from Al Jolson to the Beatles.
