Theatre On The Move

Through a partnership between the Transnet Foundation and the Guild Theatre, Theatre on the Move brings the stage to your community. The Transnet Theatre Trucks are horse-and-trailers converted into mobile performance stages and are fully equipped with audio and stage lighting. The Guild is one of five theatres in South Africa to have such an exciting facility.

Theatre on the Move also brings great opportunities for the Guild Education programmes. Besides the performance opportunities from visiting Master and Emerging artists, the Guild will also be implementing a pilot education and heritage preservation project known as FACE (Facets of Art and Culture Explored).

FACE is an initiative promoting the documentation of communities’ cultural history, rekindling the passion of storytelling and the creation of new works or arts with communities across the Eastern Cape. FACE goes to schools or communities for a stipulated period of time. During the residency three performing artists and a digital documenter work with community groups and school children to document local art and cultural activities, while also facilitating the creation of new works. The end of the residency culminates in a showcase on the Theatre Truck as well as the creation of a documentary, identification of emerging artists, and – most importantly – the contribution towards building community and revitalising cultural identity.
