KZN YOUTH ORCHESTRA

June is youth month and the KZN youth orchestra will be touring the Eastern Cape again this June. This time they have international sax sensation Andrew Young appearing as a guest artist with them.

On Wednesday 26 June at 7.30pm they will be playing in East London at the Guild Theatre. Ticket prices are R100 and R80  for pensioners and students and can be made through Computicket.

On Thursday 28th of June they will present a community concert for various retirement centres at Port Alfred. This will take place at 2.30pm  at   Port Alfred High school and in the evening at 7pm, also at the school, they will present a concert in collaboration with the Port Alfred Rotary club. Tickets for this will be R80 each .Patrons may bring food and drinks to the evening concert. Tickets for this concert may be purchased at Sotheby’s in Masonic street or online at tickets@pahs.co.za.

The orchestra then head off to the National Arts festival where they present four concerts at the festival. Three will be on the Fringe with Andrew Young as the soloist and they will be on Friday 28th at 6pm and on Saturday 29th at 11am and 3.3opm . These concerts are at the Victoria Theatre. Tickets for these are R70 and R80 and can be booked through boxoffice@nationalartsfestival.co.za. The fourth concert is on Sunday 30th June up at the monument in the Foyer area and will be a free educational children’s concert.

Their hour long  show called “KwaZulu-Natal Youth Orchestra presents Contrasts” features the KZN Youth Orchestra which comprises young musicians from all around KZN Province. It will have  the orchestra playing some well known classical favourites including ‘The Birthday Cantata’ by Bach,  and ‘O Fortuna’ from Carmina Burana. Andrew Young will join them in the lighter section and listen out for such amazing pieces as ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘Havana’ and ‘Pata Pata’.  This exciting musical  programme promises to entertain all ages .Lyk Temmingh and Cathy Peacock are the conductors .
