The Festival joins many communities and institutions who have mourned the passing of one of the treasures of traditional African music. As part of our commitment to Africa Month we celebrate the life and work of Dr Latozi ‘MaDosini’ Mphahleni in song. The tribute concert will feature luminaries like Dizu Plaatjies with Ntombethongo, Lulutho Arts Academy, Thandi Bushula, Esona, Phathisa and many more. This musical tribute concert will be graced by dignitaries and comprised of a series of performances that explore the rich tapestry of African song and dance, from uhadi to stick-fighting to folksongs and even African jazz. For a long time the Guild Theatre has been yearning to host a performance by MaDosini. The festival gives a chance to make a humble contribution to celebrating her rich life and her spirit as the embodiment of our collective heritage. Dress in your traditional attire and join us in celebration. A segment of the performance will also be showcased at the Umhlobo Wenene Impolo Yabantu event the following day.
